Going out tonight?
We all like to take pride in having the latest gadgets, but please don't flash them around whilst out, day or night. Stay alert, don't keep your wallet in an open pocket; keep it zipped up inside your jacket or bag and keep your bag zipped shut. Do not leave it unattended in bars and shops.
Street robbers target mobile phones and iPods because they are attractive, desirable, often on show and easily taken. Be aware of your surroundings and do not take short cuts, keep to well-lit areas, be alert and be safe.
Tips for a safe night out:
- Eat before you go out to reduce the effects of your drinking
- Drink water regularly during the evening and before going to bed
- Take a break if you think the drink is hitting you too quickly
- Pace yourself with soft drinks
- Don’t mix alcohol with drugs or any kind, but especially ecstasy or cocaine
- Carry a condom – if you have sex, make sure it’s safe
- Don’t accept drinks from strangers
- Don’t leave your drink unattended
- Avoid aggressive drinkers – just walk away if someone seems to be getting too rowdy
- If using a cash point – be aware of your surroundings, use a cash point in a well lit area
- Daily drinking guidelines are 2-3 units for women and 3-4 units for men
