FREE AND EASY
SmartWater is a property marking solution, which can be used to mark items of value to you, such as laptops, televisions or cameras. It's invisible to the naked eye and contains minute particles, which each have a unique nine-digit code that can be seen by the police using a special lamp. The unique code is entered on to a database along with your personal details. A bottle of SmartWater can be issued to either an entire hall of residence or an individual student living off campus.
What are the benefits?
We've found that in Nottingham, SmartWater works well as a deterrent to burglars and SmartWatered properties are rarely burgled. As one in six burglary victims is a student, it is definitely worth protecting your stuff with SmartWater. It is important to display the free window stickers you're given to prove you're SmartWatered. This gives a clear message to the burglar that your property can be traced, will be hard to sell and anyone caught with it is likely to be convicted.
Can it be removed?
No, it is impossible to remove every trace. Even the smallest deposit can be picked up by UV light and analysed by forensic scientists. Don't worry though, it won't damage your possessions and you can't see it in normal light.
How much does it cost?
Nothing, the service is FREE if you are a resident of Nottingham or studying at either of the city's universities.
